Tweetup at the Hermes Bar

We finally made it to the Hermes Bar at Restaurant Antoine for a tweetup last night. We tried to go to Hermes back in September, but they closed the place to do a bit of re-modeling, so we ended up at a bar across the street that was a bit of a disappointment. No disappointments last night, though!

The Hermes Bar is part of Restaurant Antoine, the oldest restaurant in New Orleans (established 1840). Antoines never had a separate bar, just a service bar for diners. They opened Hermes in 2008. The name honors the Krewe of Hermes, a Carnival organization. This is in keeping with the Rex and Proteous dining rooms in the restaurant.

In addition to a number of liquid libations, we ordered a bit of food:

Souffle' potatoes.  They're not really a souffle, obviously, but Antoines version of a french fry.  Take potato slices and brown them in oil that's below boiling temp.  Pull them out of the oil and drop them into a pot of oil above boiling temp.  The shock causes the potato slices to puff into the little pillows you see above.  They're served with bernaise sauce (visible just to the right)

Gumbo! the photo is blurry because @farblefumble whisked it away too fast :-)

Shrimp Remoulade, which was @SeersuckerNSazs dinner.

Cherries Jubilee!  Flaming desserts are always fun.

Thanks to everyone who came out.  Hopefully we can do this more often!
