I spent the weekend between the first two weeks of classes in Altrincham last spring in York. I stayed in another Premier Inn, just a block away from the train station.

Next to the hotel is a pub called The Windmill, whose menu consists of pies. That's pies as in what we'd call "pot pies" here in the states. Take a stew or such, place it in a deep dish, cover it with a pastry crust, and you have a pie. The classic Shepherd's Pie is a top layer of mashed potatoes rather than pastry.

This is a spicy beef pie, with a side of steamed vegetables.
Like the George and Dragon in Altrincham, The Windmill had one other important factor in making it an enjoyable place to have a meal-football! Here in the UK, English Premier League football matches are pay-per-view, costing about £8 apiece. A lot of folks would rather spend that eight quid on a couple of beers, so they go down to the local pub for the game. That was good enough reason to enjoy both Friday and Saturday nights at The Windmill.
